Gregory & Gia

ABOUT THE WEDDING

This was an intimate wedding of just 65 guests, and the groom was genuinely worried no one would dance. They started by sending over a shortlist of 50 must‑play songs, then i asked them shared their full “Liked Songs” playlist on Spotify, over 1,000 tracks, for me to mine for hidden gems that truly meant something to them. I pulled out personal favorites that had special meaning and blended them with upbeat, accessible party anthems. With a mix of thoughtful wedding games and intentional song selection, we transformed a small, low‑key crowd into an incredible, celebration for the couple. We even had a mosh pit in the end, which the bride was hoping for.

Personal Arrangements

Often couples ask to make their ceremony feel more personal with a custom arrangement of a song they love. For this wedding, I had already arranged “Still Together” by Mac DeMarco, and it ended up being the perfect fit for the wedding film Lance created. During our final meeting, Gregory mentioned how much he loved “Corner My Confidence” and said he completely understood if there wasn’t time to arrange it. I didn’t make any promises in the moment, but I knew I wanted to find a way to make that song happen for him. The audio you hear in their wedding video is actually from the live performance during their ceremony, captured straight from my recording that day. This is is by Lance the videographer for the day.

Mother Son Dance

For Gregory and his mom, “You’ll Be in My Heart” is one of those songs that holds a deep, shared meaning. During our consultation, he mentioned he hadn’t been able to find a version he liked, so I offered to play my arrangement live and as soon as he heard it on the call, he said, “That’s exactly what I’ve been looking for.” On the wedding day, that mother son dance turned out to be pretty emotional, creating a moment that clearly moved not just his mom, but their guests as well. As a bonus, this clip also shows a bit of my MC style: after a moment that emotional, the goal is to gently meet guests where they are, honor what just happened, and clearly guide them into what’s coming next so the night continues to feel intentional and connected.

Dinner Music

Playing guitar during dinner is one of my favorite parts of a wedding day. Who doesn’t want dinner and a show? It turns the meal into a relaxed, live‑music experience where guests can unwind, talk, and really enjoy the atmosphere. I love moving from table to table and bringing the energy in little “mini concerts” that are personal and fun. I’m always watching for guest cues, and when someone is really feeling the moment, that is my signal to step in and play just for them.

Setting the Vibe

Small weddings are where a DJ’s real work shows. With big weddings it is easier to keep the crowd going. With smaller ones every song choice has to be intentional and serve the people on the floor. In this case I focus more on universal songs for the floor. In this video you’ll see the dance floor exactly as it was, completely raw no edits, and how the transition from "I Wanna Dance With Somebody" to "Last Friday Night" keeps the flow of the night.

Surprise Tracks

I absolutely love when couples share their unfiltered, real Spotify playlists with me, it tells you so much about who they are. When I asked this groom for his favorites, he delivered with 1000 songs. Going through his list, I could tell that alt rock would hit, but one track really stood out: "121" from A Goofy Movie. It's an underrated gem. When I played it, it completely landed with three of the guests knowing the dance moves themselves. It was the perfect cast. If you know, you know.

Reading the Crowd

Every wedding crowd is different, and that’s the fun part! At this wedding, the guests came from all walks of life Latin, LGBTQ, young, and young at heart. It took a little while to warm up the room and figure out what really moved them, but once I cracked the code, boom. The night lit up. Guests rushing forward for their favorite tracks to spontaneous high fives after smooth transitions, that’s when I know the music’s hit.

Wedding Games

It’s typically not ideal to pause a dance floor, but wedding games and the bouquet toss can be the exception when they’re intentional and interactive. In this case, we went with the classic shoe game, which happens to be my personal favorite. I love tapping into my MC side here. It feels a bit like stepping into an Alex Trebek or Bob Barker, you can tell what shows I watched as a kid, role and hosting a live game show for your favorite people. You lean into the laughter, the reactions, and the little moments that unfold in real time.

For the bouquet toss, we flipped the script and turned it into a musical-chairs-style game with the bouquet doing the “moving.” Guests passed it around while the music played, and when it stopped, the person holding it was out. Think bouquet toss meets hunger games you can see the results for yourself in the video.

Dancing Queen

I’ve learned over the years that after the games finish, you can’t just wait for people to dance, you’ve got to give them a reason. That’s when I drop what I call the nuclear option, one of those songs everyone has to dance to. A well-timed MC prompt inviting all the “dancing queens and kings” to the floor turns the dance back on.

Open Format

One of my favorite parts of being an open-format DJ is the freedom to mix eras and genres that truly speak to every guest. Throughout the night, I’ll move seamlessly from oldies and disco classics to modern beats, Latin rhythms and more always reading the room and matching the energy. As this wedding came to a close, I brought out some 2000s alternative rock anthems. The joy of seeing them jump to every beat says it all for me.

Mosh Pit

From day one, Gia’s brief was clear and specific: “I want a mosh pit.” On the final track of the night, our encore, everyone their joined in for the joy-filled chaos she had pictured in her head.
This wedding stood out because the couple came in with a strong, personal vision for how they wanted to celebrate, and every decision, from the timeline to the final track, was geared toward executing that vision with intention and precision.

Again. It's a mistake not going for Chris.  Chris delivered in a way I just was not expecting - and I cannot recommend him more.
